Fly Light Sport CA
The Fly Light Sport CA Experience
At Fly Light Sport CA, we use the Remos GX aircraft as our trainer of choice. This German engineered, carbon fiber and kevlar aircraft is extremely strong, and extremely light. Outward visibility is excellent, which is important for students as they learn ground reference maneuvers. And excellent, coordinated flight characteristics means that our students learn faster, gain confidence faster, and are able to fly solo quickly.
We at Fly Light Sport CA are meticulous about safety. Our aircraft are tested and upgraded regularly to ensure flight crew safety. We are proud to offer our students one of the most modern Light Sport Aircraft in the industry, with modern glass-panel avionics and Garmin GPS units in dash. In the unlikely event that it's needed, we have a ballistic airframe parachute in each of our aircraft to help ensure the safety of our students and instructors.

Fly out of Fullerton or Treasure Coast, Florida
We have two Remos GX aircraft for training our students. That means that we will be able to accommodate most of our student's schedules.
We offer payment plan options, or can recommend lending organizations. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below for details.
Did you know that our Remos GX can be used to train for the Private Pilot certificate?
If you have a Light Sport Pilot certificate, or graduate from our program with a Sport Pilot Certificate, we can tailor a program for you to complete your Private Pilot training and certification.
Our fuel efficient Remos GX aircraft consumes MOGAS at a rate of 4.5 gallons per hour. Compare that to a Cessna 152 or 172's use of AVGAS and burn rate of 8 gallons per hour. By training in our Remos, you could save up to $650 over those 20 hours in fuel costs alone!
Give us a call or send us an email to inquire about training towar a Private Pilot certificate with us.
Are you interested in pursuing opportunities as a Commercial Drone Operator? (Also known as a Unmanned Aircraft System, or "UAS".) We can help you train for and receive our Sport Pilot Certificate whilch will qualify you for UAS Operations under FAA Guidelines! The Sport Pilot Certificate will be your quickest and most efficient path to making yourself eligible in this growing field!
Section 333 of the FAA Regulations:
By law, the FAA cannot authorize an aircraft operation in the National Airspace without a certificated pilot in command of the aircraft (Title 49 of United States Code § 44711). Exemptions granted in accordance with Section 333 carry the following requirement regarding the pilot in command (PIC) of the aircraft:
Under this grant of exemption, a PIC must hold either an airline transport, commercial, private, recreational, or sport pilot certificate. The PIC must also hold a current FAA airman medical certificate or a valid U.S. driver's license issued by a state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, a territory, a possession, or the Federal government. The PIC must also meet the flight review requirements specified in 14 CFR § 61.56 in an aircraft in which the PIC is rated on his or her pilot certificate.
Frequently Asked Questions:
-
Do you offer financing for your flight program?
Answer:
We can offer short term payment plans - please inquire with us to see how we can make your dream of flight a reality. Alternatively, some of our students have used resources such as LendingClub.com to help finance their training. We have no affiliation with LendingClub or any other such lenders, but often times they can present rates to qualified applicants that are lower than the interest charged by your credit card

How can you guarantee a student can acquire his/her Sport Pilot Certificate in 22 hours a part of your training package?
Answer:
The truth is that nobody can guarantee a student can pass in a certain number of hours. Every student learns at a different pace and responds to different styles of instruction. Our students learn quickly because of the ease of flying the Remos GX aircraft. (We call it a "well coordinated aircraft.") But we can't guarantee that everyone will be ready for a check ride by their 22nd hour of instruction. But many of our students solo by their 15th hour of instruction.
We will say that those students who are eager and can fly frequently (at least two times per week), and are motivated to learn the ground school materials in advance of each lesson, or even before taking flight on the their first in-cockpit lesson, will advance more quickly.

What attributes do successful students have?
Answer:
The first thing a student must have is Commitment. The student must commit to training on a regular basis, including study at home and online, in order to ensure they are ready for their lessons. As such, student must come prepared for their lesson, otherwise the time is spent with the Instructor covering those materials that should have been reviewed prior to the lesson.
Secondly, the student must have Patience. Sometimes weather does not cooperate with a planned lesson, but this is still a very crucial lesson for the student. This is known as Aeronautical Decision Making (or "ADM"). It means that the student should prepare for a lesson by studying the weather conditions at time of flight. The student is being trained to be Pilot In Command ("PIC"), and must exhibit the decision making ability to determine whether it is safe to fly or not. Our instructors will always be PIC (unless you are signed off to fly Solo), but will help hone your ability to make the right decisions concerning a flight.

What tools or aids are available to students to help with training?
Answer:
We recommend our students study the Ground School materials prior to their first flight lesson to become familiar with aiport markings, rules of flight, airspace designations, etc. For new aviators, there are many new terms and rules. Learning all of these things at one time can quickly saturate a student. Better to read what you can and, once at the airport, all of what you've learned will be put into practice.
Some students purchase extra materials to help with the ground school study. While it is not necessary, any extra aids are often helpful. Some of our students have read Rod Machado's "Sport Pilot Handbook." This well written and humorous guide helps to explain many of the rules and regulations you'll need to know as a pilot.
Some of our students also use a simulator at home, and were able to advance more quickly in their flight skills and assist their training. Those students used their home computers to train and hone skills when they are unable to come to the airport. The software they reported using was X-Plane 10 and the Remos GX model, which aided in practicing the skills and routines for take-offs, landings, flight-in-pattern, and cross-country flights to other airports. This software package also integrates with ForeFlight to help make the simulation ultra-realistic.

Do I need to complete a Sport PIlot Certificate to advance to a Private Pilot Certificate?
Answer:
No. You may choose to study for the Private PIlot Certification from the beginning. We encourage Sport Pilot Certification as it allows students to fly sooner and maintain interest in aviation. However, if pursuing a Sport Pilot Certificate and then moving on to a Private Pilot Certificate, please note that a check ride is required for Sport Pilot priveleges for a fee to the Designated Pilot Examiner ("DPE"), and another check ride with a DPE will be required for Private Pilot privileges.
-
What are the limitations of a Sport Pilot Certificate?
Answer:
A Sport Pilot Certificate allows a pilot to operate an aircraft for non-commercial purposes, with one additional passenger, in a Light Sport Aircraft that may not exceed 1,320 gross weight, may not fly faster than 120 knots per hour per hour in level flight, may not exceed 10,000 feet in altitude and fly only during daylight hours and under Visual Flight Rules ("VFR") conditions.
A Sport Pilot Certificate requires a pilot have a valid driver's license in lieu of a 3rd Class Airman's Medical. This allows Sport Pilots to fly without having to re-submit to a medical inspection every 2 years.
